The Rough Duty Workstation (RWS), a.k.a. the "forklift" computer is our most rugged product. The full 15" display and
industrial keyboard are mounted in a steel cabinet with absolute minimum of surrounding bezel. A heavy wedge body
clamps the housing to the forklift roll bar. A special supply powers the computer from the truck, and a high gain
wireless bridge seamlessly roams the network.

option summary for the list of all available options for this product line.
Use the
Configurator to specify the product you require.
Some of the considerations are:
Cabinet: The standard cabinet includes the display and keyboard. An all-touch cabinet is under development.
LCD: The standard LCD is adequate for most applications. The premium LCD offers supperior resolution and
viewing for commercial applications. The high bright LCD is appropriate in very brightly-lit areas. For viewing in
direct sunlight, contact the factory for ultra-bright models.
Touch: Standard resistive touch is the most widely used, cost-effective touch sensor. Ultra touch uses a tempered
glass outer surface, very desirable for chemical stability, durability and scratch resistant. Caution: the outer glass layer
is considered unacceptable for most food industries (risk of glass fragments in the product).
For text-only applications such as mainframe terminal emulations, protective glass or lexan may be used instead of a
touch face. Caution, for forklift applications, use of the touch feature is highly recommended.
Computer:
- For display operation only, simply choose "no computer required".
- To use this unit as a raw keyboard and touch display for your own remote computer, choose the KVM option.
- For a brand name thin client with vendor support, choose the BOS thin client.
- For the lowest cost, choose the Linux network boot thin client.
- For a full Windows computer with hard drive, choose one of the Windows options.
- If you want to install your own operating system, choose one of the "no O/S" options
All of the thin clients provide extensive terminal options including full support for Windows terminals, various mainframe
terminals, Unix, Wyse, and X-terminals. The Linux thin client version has no on-board boot RAM or hard drive, and relies
on a local server to provide its operating system. This option is appropriate for organizations that have Linux
support in-house, and delivers a very stable, centrally-managed solution.
Wireless:
All RWS computers have a built-in wireless bridge. The bridge may be independently set up for the network through a
browser interface, so as far as the thin client is concerned, no drivers are required. The antenna mounts on the
outside of the cabinet for best reception. A high gain antenna is an available option to deal with difficult reception
areas.
Power:
For all electric forklifts, the RWS requires a 24V regulator and on boards DC-DC power converter. For propane and
similar forklifts, the RWS has a 12V power adapter that provides the necessary voltages and includes methods to
regulate how much current is drawn in standby mode so that risk of premature battery discharge is reduced.
Mount:
The special forklift mounting body uses a sophisticated arrangement of rods and clamps to eliminate the fatigue
and vibration wear that destroy the more conventional mounting systems. The large body is housed behind the RWS,
so the mounting system imposes no further loss of view for the driver.
Color or Finish:
The powder coated steel is typically finished in dark gray powder coat. Other colours are available as special order.
Use the RWS products for
- forklifts in manufacturing and warehousing,
- "absolute piece location tracking" for theft control, assured JIT, absolute customer load tracking, instant invoicing,
- computers for moderate vibration machinery.,
